Introduction: The Vitrolum Republic

The Vitrolum Republic truly is a Milwaukee gem. The three-member folk or "gypsy noir" ensemble has a sound as tightly placed as the Cream City brick in their historic practice space. Jordan, Nick and Chuck have a chemistry that many bands could only hope for, within the context of their music and also in their general rapport.

Nick and Jordan are brothers, but one might think all three are related when hearing their stirring vocals. The unique blend of guitar, bass, accordion, and fiddle is an instrumental base that is difficult to pull off, yet sounds very natural for them.

The Vitrolum Republic answers to no one in terms of what they play and how they play it; their songs are original, artistic, and meaningful. Their name is as original as their music. And their album production is a work of art.

It was my pleasure to meet with them, talk with them, hear their music and unique family history. It will be your pleasure to get to know them this week.

  • A Note on the Interview From Maria

This interview took place in Milwaukee's historic Pritzlaff Building, in the Third Ward. Jordan has his woodworking shop there, and this is where the band rehearses regularly. The atmosphere could not have been more appropriate: sitting there in a cream city brick building, hearing accordion and fiddle music, watching a horse and carriage heading down Plankinton Ave. Quite the setting - many thanks for the interview, and even better, the live music.
